Set Construction and Evaluation

With my model now complete, I was asked to paint the set for the exhibition. There was a bar counter, and 4 flat walls. For the bar, I gave it a light brown base coat; Admittedly, finding the right kind of brown for the base layer proved to be difficult as I never felt as if it was the right color, fortunately however, my patience payed off because the color that it had in the end blended well with the wood grained second layer. The a second darker coat. We used a wood graining tool on the second darker layer giving it the wood grain pattern that is on normal wood. After wood graining the counter and wood panels of the bar, we used varnish on the bar to give it a polished feel.

With the bar done and out the way, I  moved onto the flat walls. I gave them a base dark grey coat on the wall and windows to give them a dark stone feel. Then, using a broom like brush, I took light grey and white paint and dotted it all over the walls giving it a stone wall texture. I believe this really brought the wall to life and made the set look so much better.

The Witcher Exhibition looked great with my set and model box being on display for all to see. I felt as if creating my model box, despite a few bumps in the road, went quite well and my set painting went incredibly well with almost no room for improvement. However, I could of gave the base coat to all the walls before patterning them which could have made the process smoother; For my model boxing, I should have considered how thin the foam boards were and not have stabbed so many wire pieces through them or spaced out the windows more so that it did not end up damaging the wall like it did, forcing me to produce a solution to the problem, but I handled it well.

In terms of the painting of the bar and set, I should have done the base coat for each flat in one day so that they could dry overnight and were ready to be textured the next day.
